Laser hair removal is one of the most commonly done cosmetic procedures NOWADAYS. It is a medical procedure that uses a combination of two laser wavelengths (‘Alexandrite’ and ‘ND-Yag’), laser (diode) or IPL (Intense pulse Light) to remove unwanted hair.

Frequently Asked Questions

The hair on our body grows in three stages: anagen, telogen and catagen. Laser hair removal is most effective on the hairs in the early part of the anagen stage, when hair is actively growing. A concentrated beam of light (the laser) is aimed at the hair follicle.  The laser than converts its energy into heat, heats up the hair follicle and prevents that follicle from growing any further.

During laser hair removal, a laser beam passes through the skin to an individual hair follicle. The intense heat of the laser damages the hair follicle, which inhibits further hair growth.

  • Before getting laser hair removal, you should thoroughly check the credentials of the doctor or technician performing the procedure.
  • You should stop plucking, waxing, threading and electrolysis for 4-5 weeks depends on the area before treatment. That’s because the laser targets the hairs’ roots, which are temporarily removed by waxing or all these options that mentioned above.
  • You should also avoid sun exposure for six weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective by changing the skin tone and makes complications after the treatment more likely. This includes also staying away from tanning beds, spray tans, and tanning lotion.
  • Shave the area Before getting laser a day or couple of hours before your appointment to avoid any irritation.

when you look at yourself following a visit to a laser hair removal clinic, you won’t see any immediate difference besides some redness or swelling from the laser. The hair is still present, but the thing that would make it grow is fried and gone. Without the follicles to anchor them, the affected hairs will fall out on their own over the following days.

Your skin needs to recover from the laser treatment. Even after any initial swelling fades, your skin is still going to be a bit raw and sensitive—it was just blasted by a laser, after all.

Remember that only about 20% of your hair is affected by a laser treatment at any given time. It will take a few more visits to the clinic to achieve the full hairless effect you desire. The exact number of laser treatments you’ll need will depend on your skin type and the size of the area to be affected. Immediately after your first laser hair removal session, hair will be still visible.  Laser targets hair follicle under the skin, and it will take some time for your body to go through a natural process to push dead hair out. Once the dead hair falls out, you will experience a hair-free period after first treatment, the hair-free period will be brief.  You will experience longer and longer hair-free periods after each subsequent treatment.

You MIGHT notice redness and swelling for the first few hours after laser hair removal, that’s normal. To reduce any discomfort, apply ice to the treated area.

Ingrown hairs are caused by hair shafts that do not “grow out” of the skin properly and become buried within the skin itself. This can cause irritation, bumps, infections or cysts. Since the laser destroys the hair follicle, the source of the ingrown hair, it is the ideal way to eliminate these problematic hair shafts, often permanently.

Ingrown hairs can be caused by almost every hair removal method, except Laser.  Waxing and shaving in specific can result in breakage of the hair. The tugging on the hair causes the hair to break half way while the rest of the hair remains attached. The hair then tries to grow but has been disrupted causing the hair to coil. The result is then a large red swollen ingrown hair.

laser is a great option for men who have ingrown on their neck from shaving and woman who are prone to ingrown on their bikini area.

Avoid exposing to the sun before and during the time you are being treated. Don’t expose the skin that’s being treated for at least four weeks before and after laser treatment, to be exact. You can’t receive this treatment if you’re sunburned — or even if you have a tan. Summer might not be the best time to start laser hair removal if you’re a fan of the outdoors. A lot of people start treatments in the fall or winter in order to have stubble-free skin by summer!

Remember to use SPF of at least 30 on the treated areas afterwards so that you avoid the risk of getting hyperpigmentation.

Candela GentleMax Pro Laser Hair Removal

This is a hair removal system like no other.  It is the newest, most powerful laser hair removal system for permanent hair removal today. This innovative laser machine is the only machine that you can do laser treatment of very sensitive areas without applying a numbing cream. Aside from being able to treat all skin types, it’s also the perfect laser hair removal treatment for those of you who are looking for more flexibility and quicker treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions

The GentleMax Pro treatment is significantly less painful than other laser systems. You can do laser treatment of very sensitive areas without applying a numbing cream.

An inbuilt cooling system: right before the laser beam is applied to the skin, an advanced freezing agent is sprayed from the laser hand piece. This has a powerful numbing effect for the most comfortable treatment possible even if you have a super sensitive skin or a lower pain tolerance.

A combination of two gold-standard laser wavelengths explains the GentleMax Pro’s effectiveness: 755 nm wavelength (the ‘Alexandrite’) – perfect for targeting fairer skin with darker hair. 1064 nm wavelength (the ‘ND-Yag’) – the one you want if you have a darker skin tone and darker hair. Most laser hair removal systems contain only one or the other, which explains why past treatments may not have worked for you. The two wavelengths in the GentleMax Pro mean that no matter what your skin tone, hair colour or hair thickness, the GentleMax will work.

With very large spot sizes of 22mm, a larger skin surface area can be covered at once; a GentleMax Pro female leg treatment should take no more than 15 minutes and less than 10 minutes for back hair removal in men.

Four to six sessions should be all you need for permanent hair removal in the targeted area. This is even if you have features that with other laser systems, contributed to slower treatment effectiveness – like thicker hairs or darker skin.

Both IPL (Intense Pulse Light) and GentleMax Pro serve the purpose of permanent body hair removal. GentleMax Pro is a laser treatment, whereas IPL is not (although it’s similar to laser). IPL’s widely dispersed light doesn’t target and destroy hair follicles and their bases as precisely, deeply or safely as the GentleMax Pro’s thin beam of light.

GentleMax Pro is a great laser for hair removal that combines two wavelengths. We also provide the Soprano, which is a Diode laser. Both GentleMax Pro and Soprano are a gold standard premium for Laser Hair Removal.

SHR is Alma Laser’s proprietary art hair removal method used in clinics around the world with global brand recognition.

Gold standard 810-nm laser diode

Soprano Family uses an 810-nm diode laser technology, the gold standard in laser hair removal. Unlike earlier systems, however, Soprano energy penetrates deep into the dermis where the hair follicle is located, delivering high average power and a rapid 10 pulse-per-second repetition rate.

Heat build-up

SHR works by gradually heating the dermis to a temperature that effectively damages the hair follicles and prevents re-growth, while avoiding injury to the surrounding tissue. A high repetition rate of short pulses is delivered deep into the dermis, achieving high average power and therapeutically effective heat build-up, with virtually no pain.

HarmonyLITE is a new platform for aesthetic treatments that uses Alma Lasers proprietary Advanced, an improved technology for intense pulsed light. AFT increases emission and penetration, for safer and more effective treatments, while delivering Equally Distributed Fluence, which means that every pulse has uniform energy density across the entire output face. This fluence ensures repeatable results and remarkable safety. AFT yields a more efficient system for ideal clinical improvements, less discomfort, minimal skin damage and an extended lifetime of the handpiece.

IPL has become a popular treatment and is effective for pigmentation and telangiectasias but has lesser results for wrinkles. The procedure is quick, safe and well tolerated.
